Neighbourhood Guide
Creative grit · Street art · Market culture
Where Cape Town’s creative energy concentrates. Converted warehouses, The Old Biscuit Mill, craft breweries, and street art on every corner. More affordable, rougher edges, genuine character.
Woodstock is Cape Town’s creative engine room. The converted warehouse spaces along Albert Road and Sir Lowry Road house design studios, tech startups, and some of the city’s most interesting cafés and restaurants. The Old Biscuit Mill — home to the famous Neighbourgoods Market on Saturdays — is the anchor of the neighbourhood’s identity.
For remote workers, the appeal is affordability and energy. Rent runs R7,000–R12,000/mo for a 1-bed, which is significantly less than Sea Point or the CBD. The trade-off is that Woodstock is grittier — it’s an area in transition, and some streets are better than others. Ask locals, visit at different times of day, and choose your block carefully.
Fibre coverage is strong, there are several good coworking options (Neighbourgood Roodebloem, The Woodstock Exchange), and the café culture is thriving. If you want to be where things are being made — not just consumed — Woodstock is your neighbourhood.
